6718. Pollen, A. H., [Mergenthaler Setzmaschinen-Fabrik Ges.]. March 17. [Addition to 13,201/09.] Distributing matrices.-The means for levelling multiple-face matrices or dies described in the parent Specification, is modified in that the matrices are moved upwards in a straight path, and the supporting-ledge is moved aside by the matrices and automatically returns beneath the matrices. Fig. 1 shows a pivoted ledge 3 held in normal position by a spring 19 and provided with a cam - surface 14 for co-operation with a cam - surface 15 on the matrix lug, so that the ledge is swung aside when the matrix is raised by the lifter 6. The ledge 3 is pivoted in a recess 17 in the elevator head 1; the back of the recess forms a stop to limit the rearward swing. In another form, the ledge is arranged to slide norizontally. Specifications 14,582/90, 18,886/95, and 17,962/98 are referred to.
