25,768. Pollen, A. H., and Riley, G. B. Nov. 9. Indicating particular readings. - An instrument for averaging the observations of several range - finders or other observing instruments comprises a dial with separate pointers 8, 9, 10, 11, for each observing-instrument, each pointer being operated by means such as a transmitter at the observing station connected with a receiver forming part of the averaging-instrument. A pointer 12 is set to the average position of the pointers 8, 9, &c., and its reading taken as the range. Separate indicators are provided for showing which of the observations are regarded as reliable by the observers. The means for setting the averaging - pointer may be handactuated, or may be power-driven by a variablespeed drive of the ball-and-disk type, the position of the controlling-lever then indicating the rate of change of range.
