13,061. Pollen, A. H., [Mergenthaler Setzmaschinen-Fabrik Ges.]. June 3. Distributing matrices.-Relates to means for levelling multiple-face matrices between the casting and distributing mechanisms. In the first elevator 5, Fig. 3, matrices 3 composed at the lower level are supported by means of their top lugs on rails 11, and matrices 6 composed at the higher level rest with their bottom lugs on ribs 12 formed by grooves 13. Between the first and second elevators are located rails 14, of which the upper surfaces are in alinement with those of the rails 11. The lower surfaces of the rails 14 are provided at their ends with inclines 15, which, as the matrices are pushed out of the elevator 5 on to the rails 14, engage the higher matrices by their bottom lugs and draw them down to the lower level. In a modification, the inclines 15 are placed on the upper surfaces of the rails 14, so that the lower matrices are raised to the higher level. In another form, the inclines 23, Fig. 10, are carried by a slide 17 which, during the entry of the composed line into the first elevator 5, is maintained by a lever 24 and spring 27 in the lower inoperative position. When the elevator rises, the end of the lever 24 encounters a fixed stop and raises the slide 17, so that the inclines 23 are in position to draw down the higher matrices, as shown in Fig. 10. The inclines 23 may be arranged to raise the lower matrices to the higher lever. Specifications 14,582/90, 18,886/95, 17,962/98, and 25,046/07 are referred to.
