The firing system for a water cannon (1), to neutralise or destroy an explosive device, has a mechanical firing mechanism to set off the charge at the breech. It has a firing pin (5) on a spring (6) to strike the primer (7a) of a blank cartridge (7). The cartridge (7), using a blank or practice load for a 12mm hunting rifle, has a propellant charge (7b) and a wad (7c). The firing pin is triggered by an electrically fired detonator (8).
