Packages are identified with an identification code which is generated from identification data representing the sender of the package retrieved from his portable identification device. The resulting identification code comprises information about the sender, and may comprise information about the destination of the package. Packages identified with the package identification system hence have an official identification, and it becomes simpler to trace the sender or the package itself.
