598,233. Quick-action switches. MACRAE, R. S. Sept. 19, 1944, No. 17909. [Class 38(v)] [Also in Group XXI] An electric switch comprises a spring- operated contact-member 13 held in the open position by a release member 6 held in engagement with the member 13 by pressure which if released or increased releases this member. The member 13 carries a coned flange 14a engaged by the coned end 19 of the member 6 which is held in open position by a safety pin 8 passing through it and the boss 3 in which it is mounted. This pin is withdrawn when the pressure of some object is applied to the head 7 for instance when used as a booby trap bomb release. If considerable pressure is applied to the head 7 a reduced frangible part 15 of the member 13 breaks and the striker is released. The member 13 may be released by a trip wire connected to the pin 8. A safety spring strip 24 inserted in a slot in the casing prevents the member 13 operating if prematurely released, an aperture in this strip receives the point 14 of the member 13 so that this member must be released before the strip can be withdrawn. Fig. 1 shows the switch in use as a firing device for a detonator 21 but when used as a switch the holder 20 for the detonator is provided with an insulated head 33, Fig. 6, which the member 13 is adapted to engage and a lead 32 soldered to the earthed holder. A telescopically adjustable screwed rod may be screwed into a tapped hole 29 in the head 1 in order that pressure may be transmitted to this head from a distance.
