The mechanism comprises a block 10, 11 having a passage 13, 12 therethrough, and a ion valve member 17 comprising a plurality of individually displaceable resilient blade elements 18 located in the passage 13, 12 and inclined to the path of travel of bees through the passage, each blade element 18 being anchored at one end adjacent one wall of the passage and, in its relaxed state, having its other end disposed adjacent the opposite wall of the passage.
