PROPOLIS-CONTAINING FOOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a propolis-containing food capable of improving the absorption efficiency of an active ingredient of a propolis extract in vivo and reducing a strong odor and mucosal irritation peculiar to the propolis extract and readily administrable without any water. SOLUTION: This propolis-containing food is obtained by making a propolis extract gel with a gelling base. A propolis extract prepared by extraction from the propolis by an alcohol extracting method is preferably used as the propolis extract. The content of the propolis extract is within the range of 2-25 wt.% in the propolis-containing food and the content of the gelling base is within the range of 0.01-10 wt.% in the propolis-containing food. A sulfated saccharide is preferably used as the gelling base in order to impart mucosal protecting actions to the propolis-containing food. Furthermore, a -glucan is preferably used in order to impart immunopotentiating actions to the propolis-containing food.COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
