The treatment is provided to allow the composition to be rendered with a reduced odour and/or to be rendered more palatable and/or more soluble. The treatment includes the steps of contacting the propolis with water for a predetermined period of time and removing a layer of material which collects on the composition. Uses of propolis which may or may not have been treated are also disclosed which uses include the provision of the propolis as part of a bioadhesive composition in the form of a gel or patch.
