Each aperture 44 is of sufficient size for a bee to pass through, and central panel portion 41 is substantially planar. The propolis tray also are adapted such that its central panel portion 41 is positionable to be in a substantially close face to face arrangement with the central panel portion 41 of another propolis tray. Alternatively, the propolis collection assembly can comprise three or more propolis trays, each comprising a central panel portion 41 having a plurality of apertures 44, of sufficient size for a bee to pass through, passing through central panel portion 41. The propolis trays are stacked in a face-to-face arrangement such that apertures 44 are substantially aligned to form tunnels through the thickness of the collection assembly. The collection assembly including means for maintaining the propolis trays in this arrangement or the inner surfaces of the tunnels contain gaps or are irregular.
