The extraction of propolis is effected at room temperature, without the use of ultrasound or microwaves, by adding hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin in the extraction solvent system. The solubility of the active components is increased by the formation of inclusion complexes during extraction and this leads to an increase in the extraction efficiency. The final extract is more stable and at the same time it has certain specifications as regards antioxidative capacity, total polyphenol content and total flavonoid content. The extract may be used in enriching foodstuffs, in the preparation of nutrition supplements, face and body cosmetic products, and medicaments.
