Parasitic mites kill a large number of honey beeseach year. It is possible to destroy such mites using amiticide such as formic acid. However, presently availablemethods of applying the miticide are unsatisfactory. Thisproblem is overcome by a relatively simple box for receivingformic acid impregnated sawdust. An air inlet opening isprovided in one end of the box, and air outlets are providedin the top or cover of the box. The box is placed in a hiveopening. The natural draft in the hive results in the flow ofair through the box to pick up acid vapour for flow throughoutthe hive. The outlet openings can be varied to control thequantity of acid entering the hive.
