2473. Schuyler, W. B. Feb. 2. Sacks and like bags, cleaning. Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section and Fig. 2 a cross-section of a machine for cleaning flour &c. sacks or bags. The sides and ends of the machine consist of removable wooden frames covered with thin foraminous material, such as cheese cloth. The sacks are placed across the machine, and are supported on the tops of the rods 5 secured to the bars 4. The rods 9, which also enter the sacks, are carried by the longitudinally-reciprocating bars 7 running upon rollers 8, the effect of the motion being to shake the sacks. The dust falls into a drawer 17, or is removed by means of a fan.
