Use of lipid A (I) of Vitreoscilla filiformis comprising tetrahydro-pyran compound (X), for the preparation of a composition to inhibit the proliferation of microbial flora, preferably undesirable skin bacteria, to prevent and/or treat microbial infections and superinfections of the skin, and to prevent the microbial proliferation in cell or organotypic culture, is claimed. Use of lipid A (I) of Vitreoscilla filiformis comprising tetrahydro-pyran compound of formula (X); when R is (PO(OH)2) group, (I) comprises its inorganic salt, a primary, secondary or tertiary amine salt, or a phosphoethanolamine salt, for the preparation of a composition to inhibit the proliferation of microbial flora, preferably undesirable skin bacteria, to prevent and/or treat microbial infections and superinfections of the skin, before, simultaneously or after using the peeling agent, and to prevent the microbial proliferation in cell or organotypic culture, is claimed.
