The invention relates to a high pressure piston fuel pump (28) for a fuel system (10) for an internal combustion engine, having: a conveying chamber (26), delimited by a pump piston (30), movably provided in the high pressure piston fuel pump (28); an inlet valve (24), hydraulically arranged between the conveying chamber (26) and an inlet (20) and opening toward the conveying chamber (26); an outlet valve (40), hydraulically arranged between the conveying chamber (26) and an outlet (36) and opening toward the outlet (36); and a pressure limiting valve (42), hydraulically arranged between the outlet (36) and the conveying chamber (26) and opening toward the conveying chamber (26); characterized in that a pressure limiting chamber (47) is fluidically arranged between the pressure limiting valve (42) and the conveying chamber (26) and is separated from the conveying chamber (26) by a throttle (45).
