The invention relates to a plant coding sequence, an amplification primer and application of the plant coding sequence in plant height optimization. According to a coding gene, a nucleotide sequence of a tobacco NtbHLH137 gene is shown as SEQ ID No: 1; an amino acid sequence of a coding protein is shown as SEQ ID No: 2; and the plant height of a tobacco plant can be increased through overexpression of the gene, and the NtbHLH137 has a wide application prospect in the field of tobacco plant type breeding. The protein NtbHLH137 disclosed by the invention is a plant MYC transcription factor gene, the plant height of the tobacco plant can be regulated by regulating the expression of the NtbHLH137, and the plant height of tobacco can be remarkably increased by over-expressing the gene in the tobacco. Therefore, the gene NtbHLH137 for regulating and controlling a plant type has an application prospect in the field of plant type breeding and has huge economic benefit potential.
