The fermentation method comprises the steps of airing, modulating, sorting to-be-bundled tobacco leaves of sun-cured tobacco according to types, uniformly spraying edible white spirit of 50 degrees or above on the surfaces of petioles, or directly dipping the petioles in the edible white spirit of 50 degrees or above, bundling and wrapping, and storing in a clean, odorless and shady inner room for 40 days or above. In allusion to the flavor quality requirements of heated cigarettes on the tobacco leaves of the sun-cured tobacco raw material, by adopting the fermentation method disclosed by the invention, the peculiar smell and mould of the tobacco leaves generated by the traditional fermentation method can be effectively removed, the tobacco leaves are naturally and sufficiently fermented, bright in color and pure in tobacco flavor, and the sensory quality of the sun-cured tobacco used as raw material tobacco for the heated cigarettes is remarkably improved while the flavor characteristic of the sun-cured tobacco is ensured.
