In particular, the present invention is directed to a transgenic plant or plant cell in which a nucleic acid molecule encoding an RNA demethylase FTO (fat mass and obesity-associated) protein is introduced. Also provided by the disclosure are methods of producing the plants with increased biomass, yield and/or abiotic stress tolerance.
