For example, this document provides insecticidal agents that include (a) a nucleic acid analog (NAA; e.g., a single-stranded NAA) and (b) a polypeptide that can enhance the activity of the NAA. This document also provides methods for using the insecticidal agents provided herein to manage an insect population. In some cases, one or more insecticidal agents provided herein can be used to treat a plant having an insect infestation.
