Fecha de publicación: -- Fuente: WIPO "tomato" The invention concerns the industrial processing of biotechnologically produced rhamnolipids. It is an object of the invention to provide a process for isolating rhamnolipids from aqueous media that reduces the salt load and is ideally carried out without organic solvents. Moreover, the process shall be as energy-efficient as possible. It shall provide rhamnolipids of high purity and be usable on an industrial scale. The process according to the invention uses the proven lowering and increasing of pH to separate the rhamnolipids on the basis of their density. However, the pH is adjusted electrochemically, namely by electrolysis of water. Therefore, an important aspect of the present process is that both the lowering and increasing of pH are effected electrochemically by water splitting. The crucial advantage of this is that there is no need to use inorganic acids or alkaline solutions.
