Optionally the fusion protein includes a linker located between the interferon type 1 polypeptide and the fusion partner. The fusion proteins disclosed herein can be used to treat suitable disease including, for example, an ocular surface squamous neoplasia, a viral conjunctivitis, an ocular inflammation, pterygium, or a retinal vascular disease.
