This Study Investigates the Functional Group Profiling and Bioremediation Potential of Cocoa Pod Husk (CPH), Potato Peel (PP) and Fluted Pumpkin Husk (FPH) in Petroleum-Contaminated Soil. Fresh CPH, PP and FPH Were Thoroughly Washed and Fermented with Brown Sugar and Distilled Water in the Ratio of 1:1:1 For Two Months, and their Functional Groups Determined Using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) Was Determined Using Gas Chromatography-Flame Ionization Detection (GC-FID). Results Revealed the Presence of Prominent Absorption Peaks for Hydroxyl (–OH), Amine (–NH), Nitrile (–C≡N) and Aromatic (C=C) Functional Groups which Are Associated with Hydrocarbon Adsorption. Shared Absorption Bands Were Observed at 3291–3306 Cm−1 (O–H/N–H), 2109–2117 Cm−1 (C≡C/C≡N), and 1636 Cm−1 (C=C), which Are Signs of Alcohols, Phenols, Amines, Nitriles and Aromatic Functional Groups. The Results Also Recorded Distinct Fingerprint Spectra at 1408 Cm−1 (C–H/C–O) in CPH, 1278 Cm−1 (C–O) in PP and 3291 Cm−1 in FPH (O–H/N–H), Demonstrating the Chemical Diversity of the Agro-Wastes. TPH Concentration Reduced from 35,480 Mg/Kg in Polluted Soil to 14,218, 16,033 and 17,428 Mg/Kg at 250 Mg/Kg and 9370, 10,078 and 14,953 Mg/Kg at 500 Mg/Kg in CPH, FPH and PP Respecttively after 150 Days. The Study Thus Presents One of the First Comparative FTIR-Based Standards for Predicting and Ascertaining the Petroleum Remediation Potential of CPH, FPH and PP, Reinforcing their Role in Sustainable Waste-to-Resource Management.
