WAX ESTERS FROM CRAMBE

Fuente: WIPO "biotechnology"
Transformed Crambe plants that produce wax esters in their seeds are provided. The instant description includes the transformation of Crambe plants with at least one recombinant polynucleotide, and a preferably, two or three recombinant polynucleotides. The recombinant polynucleotide or polypeptides will generally comprise at least one promoter capable of functioning in a cell of a seed, a nucleic acid sequence encoding a wax synthase, a nucleic acid sequence encoding a fatty acid reductase, and optionally, a nucleic acid sequence encoding a fatty acid elongase. As a result of expression of the wax synthase and the fatty acid reductase in the seed, the plant will produce wax esters in its seed. In another preferred embodiment, the promoter is preferentially expressed in a cell of a seed, such as a seed of the transgenic plant.
