Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTwo new β-carboline alkaloids, forsysanmenines A and B (1-2), were isolated from the ripe fruits of Forsythia suspensa Vahl. Their chemical structures, including absolute stereochemistry, were fully characterised by spectroscopic analyses combined with electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. In vitro, two undescribed β-carboline alkaloids exhibited potent anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activities in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages. At the concentration of 10 μM, they suppressed the production of the pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β, with inhibition rates of 60.9%-63.1%. Additionally, they decreased intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels by 59.7%-60.2%.PMID:42323908 | DOI:10.1080/14786419.2026.2690633
