Species of this genus are annual to perennial herbs, small shrubs, or subshrubs occurring in all Africa and south-western Asia, with their European range restricted to Spain and Sicily. In the present study, the chemical composition of the essential oil (EO) of the Omani accessions of Launaea almahrahensis N.Kilian, a species completely unexplored, was evaluated by GC-MS and 1H-NMR. The main components of the EO of L. almahrahensis (LA) were monoterpene hydrocarbons (78.69 ± 4.11%), with limonene (41.27 ± 2.17%) and β-myrcene (35.56 ± 1.87%) as the most abundant constituent of the sample. Among other compounds (9.96 ± 0.45%), dillapiole (3.03 ± 0.15%) is worthy of mention. Furthermore, literature reviews were conducted on the ethnopharmacological properties and on the composition of the EOs of all the other Launaea species, studied so far.PMID:42900682 | DOI:10.1080/14786419.2026.2749463
