METHOD FOR EVALUATION OF ANTIBACTERIAL PROPERTIES OF ESSENTIAL OIL EXTRACTED FROM LEAVES OF HYPERICUM OBLONGIFOLIUM

The invention discloses a method (800) for evaluation of antibacterial properties of essential oil (202) extracted from leaves of Hypericum Oblongifolium plant (102). The method (800) comprises taking the essential oil (202) in ratio of 1:10, and diluting the essential oil (202) in 99.8 percent dimethyl sulfoxide, at step (802). The method (800) further comprises testing the diluted essential oil, having concentration range of 5-0.01 percent along x-axis, in a 96-well microtitre plate with the negative control, the positive control and nutrient broth media, at step (804). The method (800) further comprises incubating the 96-well microtitre plate for 24 hours at 37 degrees Celsius, at step (806). The method (800) further comprises applying 10 µl of the resazurin dye to the incubated 96-well microtitre plate, and noting colour shift of the 96-well microtitre plate, at step (808). The colour shift is the change of colour of the 96-well microtitre plate.
