A COLORIMETRIC SENSOR FOR DETECTING OXYTOCIN AND A METHOD THEREOF

The present invention relates to a colorimetric sensor for detecting oxytocin in a food sample. The colorimetric sensor includes gold nanoparticles (AuNP) functionalized by modification of a surface thereof. The surface of the AuNP can be modified with addition of cysteamine (cys) thereto. The cys includes thiol/mercapto group (-SH) which easily binds with surface of AuNPs through Au-S bond formation, and amino group exposed on an outer surface of a cysteamine-gold nanoparticle conjugate as amide group. The oxytocin induces aggregation of Cys-AuNP through formation of hydrogen bond with Cys-AuNP causing change in the color of the solution from red wine to blue resulting in change in absorption properties of Cys- AuNP. The present invention also discloses a method (100) for fabricating the colorimetric sensor and a method (200) for detecting the oxytocin in a food sample through the sensor.
