PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for breeding tomatoes having fruit that naturally dehydrate while still attached to the tomato plant and thus have a reduced water content, and to provide tomatoes having reduced water content as products of the method.SOLUTION: A tomato paste, sauce or ketchup includes a tomato fruit which includes a genome of the Lycopersicon esculentum species also having an introgression from a wild Lycopersicon hirsutum LA1777 species, the tomato fruit characterized by a capability of natural dehydration while on a tomato plant, natural dehydration being defined as wrinkling of skin of the tomato fruit when the fruit is allowed to remain on the plant after a norma ripe harvest stage, the natural dehydration being generally unaccompanied by microbial spoilage.COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
