Iberdrola and its subsidiary Neoenergia are replacing the current biodiesel-fueled thermal plant with a solar farm and a battery energy storage system (BESS). The decarbonization initiative called Noronha Verde, named for the main island and the Portuguese word for “green,” will supply residents and tourists with green electricity, aligning with the country’s broader shift to renewable energy.
