A usage policy is defined for a digital object with a policy identifier, ID, to comprise one or more anchors. Each anchor is related to a digital object or an activity that can observed in unstructured digital environment such as video content or virtual reality. A policy watermark is embedded into the digital object including the policy ID and a start marker configured for supporting bit frame alignment and encoding policy watermark parameters. Further, whenever the digital object is encountered the usage policy can be obtained from a policy repository by decoding the policy ID from the policy watermark.
