A digital voter system for a mulit-site publicservice trunking (PST) digitally trunked RFcommunications system operates on the principle thatit is highly likely that messages received during asystem redundancy removal period are redundantmessages. For a given RF channel, digital receiveris associated with each of multiple sites andreceives digital messages reported to it by itsassociated sites. The multiple digital receivers areconnected to a digital selector via a service requestline (FSL) and a serial data line (BSL). Digitalreceivers which have messages to transfer to to thendigital selector attempt to seize the service requestline and, if they successfully seize it, maintain theline in its seized state for the redundancy removalperiod. Digital receivers which have messages butdiscover the service request line is already seizedsimply discard their messages. Since it is likelythat two digital receivers may successfully seize thenservice request line at or near the same time, awindowing technique is used to schedule the timesdifferent digital receivers may apply their messagesto the serial data line. If a digital receiver seessignals on the serial data line before it isscheduled to begin transmitting, it discards itsmessage and aborts its transmission attempt. Thepreferred embodiment voter thus handles messages veryrapidly (to reduce system latency time) whileeffectively removing most redundant messages andreducing or eliminating data collision on the sharedserial data bus.
