Besides diagnosis, which mostly relies on the S2k-guideline diagnosis and treatment of chronic pruritus, two systemic agents have been approved for the treatment of CPG in recent years.OBJECTIVES: This review aims to provide an overview of the pathophysiology and current diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations for CPG.MATERIALS AND METHODS: For this review, a literature and clinical trial search was conducted via PubMed and Clinical Trials using the terms 'chronic prurigo', 'prurigo nodularis', 'pathophysiology', 'diagnosis', 'treatment' and 'therapy'.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The pathophysiology of CPG is becoming increasingly well understood. Building on this, a second targeted therapy for patients with moderate to severe CPG has recently been approved. Numerous other substances are currently undergoing clinical trials, offering the prospect of further improvements in the care of patients affected by CPG.PMID:42228089 | DOI:10.1007/s00105-026-05710-5
