Former USA Today veteran recruiting journalist Jason Jordan named Director of Basketball Recruiting NEW YORK - On the heels of launching SI All-American last month, Sports Illustrated today announced it has added basketball recruiting to the high-school-athlete-focused site with the appointment of Jason Jordan as Director of Basketball Recruiting. An 11-year basketball sports reporting veteran, Jordan will lead SI All-American’s basketball recruiting coverage.“Jason has a good eye for talent and does a tremendous job of creating original content in what can be a cookie cutter world,” said Ryan Hunt, SI’s co-editor-in-chief. “Jason’s ability to form bonds with recruits and their families brings a unique view into the recruitment of the nation’s college basketball prospects and is a superb addition to SI All-American.”Launched in December 2019, SI All-American features extensive coverage of high school football and basketball recruiting, and honors the nation’s elite sport-by-sport athletes as part of its All-American teams. SI’s new team network, operating on Maven’s substantially faster platform, brought 5.6 million unique users to SI during the month of December. Maven also is making significant investments in top-tier journalists to produce more impact-focused stories in a reimagined Sports Illustrated magazine.Jordan began his career directly out of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as an intern at ESPN Magazine. After writing at the Daily Press at Newport News, Va., he joined ESPN as the basketball editor of ESPNHS in 2008, later moving to USA Today Sports as a senior writer covering recruiting in 2012.“I’m excited to join the SI brand because of its rich tradition in the media space and to be able to work with some of the pioneers in the recruiting industry,” Jordan said. “I've dedicated my career to building strong relationships and leveraging them to produce exclusive content, tell great stories, and deliver strong national reporting. I'm looking forward to continuing that work at SI.”
