The method includes mixing the sieved herb with water and liquefying the herb and water mixture. Heat treating the liquified mixture. The drug is selected from the group consisting of herbal drugs, allopathic drugs, periodontal drugs, and combinations thereof, but excluding the group consisting of antibiotics, antibodies, and drugs inhibitory to the viability of the probiotic. The pharmaceutical formulation is prepared by a. mixing the individual extracts of Withania, Tinospora, and Picrorhiza in therapeutically effective amounts to get a combined extract; b. adding one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carriers and/or diluents; and c. optionally, filtering the final mixture and purifying the herbal ingredients by at least one method selected from the group consisting of solvent extraction, gas extraction, and carbon dioxide extraction.
