Composite material based on hydroxyapatite and commercially available powder titanium (IV) dioxide (99,5% purity, Sigma Aldrich) in mass ratio 1:1 was obtained by precipitation from Са(ОН)2 and NaH2PO4. After precipitation, thermal treatment was performed at 300°С with a dwell time of 6h. The antimicrobial activity was analyzed for two fungal and six bacterial ATCC strains using the microdilution method and recording the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values. The MIC value was reduced several times its original value. Applied synthesis conditions led to the formation of hydroxyapatite in two crystal modifications and core/shell morphology. That synergetic effect enables inhibition of electron/hole recombination, increases charges separation, which increases photocatalytic and antimicrobial efficiency of the obtained composite. With this process of obtaining TiO2 modified by HAp composite, combined with natural product agents extracted from plants Sideritis perfoliata, Sideritis euboae, Sideritis syriaca, Sideritis starica and Sideritis raeseri (Lamiaceae) has been used in the potection of air filters.
